Oceanallover is a site-responsive Arts company making bold and imaginative work for all kinds of people and places.
"Visceral performance, unique costumes and one-of-a-kind ideas"
Oceanallover have been making unusual work for public spaces since 1990. We create visceral performances using dance, music and sculptural costume. Our work is collaborative and experimental. We present projects both nationally and internationally and the scale of work varies from solos to large ensemble projects.
We continue to be a unique voice in the world of outdoor theatre.
Our work has been shown at many locations, festivals and events including Dance International Glasgow, Sanctuary Lab, Spoffin Festival Amersfoort, The National Museums of Scotland, Crawick Artland, V&A London, Manipulate Festival, Dance Base Edinburgh, Unexpected Exeter, Mirabilia Festival Italy, Christchurch Arts Festival NZ, Surge Festival Glasgow, Mega Mango Festival Mumbai.
Oceanallover is led by Alex Rigg. He has been making live events since 1982. These have taken a number of forms and been shown in several different countries. If there is a common thread to the style and content of these events then it must be a strong need to push boundaries around, to set foot on unknown soil and generally to play with our concepts of art outside its accepted form. He trained as an archaeological illustrator, drystone dyker, blacksmith, fine-artist, dancer, timber-framer and costume maker/designer. His performance work, has been shown in many countries and to many kinds of people.
He has worked with, for and alongside many leading creative artists and companies in Scotland taking imaginative and poetic work out into the world. His performance style borrows from many influences and genres, making reference to film, literature and popular culture. The subject matter of his work is often linked to global and philosophical concerns and encourages its audience to look harder at who and what they are.
